NetApp: Does Slow & Steady Win the Race?

NetApp: Does Slow & Steady Win the Race?

As the CEO of a Silicon Valley tech company, George Kurian is remarkably calm and measured in his approach.  The firm he heads, NetApp, Inc., is a Fortune 500 company with over thirty years of history, and probably one of the most recognised names in the data storage industry.  However, rather than prevaricate on how AI will transform his organisation, Kurian instead focuses on the core essence of what continues to make NetApp successful in the current technology world.

This week, I was invited to an intimate breakfast briefing (with only 5 other guests) at a high-end London restaurant in Piccadilly.  While the quality of the food was distinctly average, the conversation was not.  Kurian isn’t betting the house on AI, but instead appears to be following a path of stability that takes a different long-term view.
